Who We Are
Tallgrass is a leading infrastructure company that has proudly called the Midwest home for over a decade, fostering strong connections with local communities while driving economic growth and innovation. Our team of over 1,200 dedicated professionals who safely operate and maintain an extensive network of large-scale, multi-commodity infrastructure, which includes more than 10,000 miles of pipeline transporting essential resources that power homes, businesses, and industries.
With a steadfast commitment to safety, sustainability, and reliability, we continue to invest in the future of energy, delivering long-term benefits for the communities we serve.
What We’re Doing
We’re advancing global markets for American agricultural products.
By repurposing our existing Trailblazer pipeline to transport CO2 we’re enabling the production of low-carbon biofuels and feedstocks unlocking new markets for American agricultural products and new opportunities such as sustainable aviation fuel.
During and After Construction
After the pipeline is safely buried underground, the land is returned to its original use. Our team is committed to ensuring construction is completed safely and efficiently, so the community can get back to normal as soon as possible. This project is designed to deliver environmental benefits which help to reduce carbon emissions by lowering greenhouse gases and supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future for generations to come.
The Project
Local biofuel facilities connect to Trailblazer through a series of lateral pipelines. These facilities account for more than 400 million bushels of corn purchased from local farmers and over one billion gallons of biofuels produced.
Trailblazer will transport CO2 in either dense or gaseous phase. Laterals transporting CO2 in dense phase will operate at a pressure of 1,300 to 2,100 psi, while the mainline and laterals transporting CO2 in gaseous phase will operate at a pressure of 300 to 800 psi.
Safety
When it comes to safety, experience matters.
Tallgrass transports over 30 times the amount of energy that could be moved on Trailblazer across more than 10,000 miles of pipelines annually.
Our extensive experience, combined with a strong commitment to safety and innovation, gives us the expertise needed to safely transport CO2 over several hundred miles on the Trailblazer pipeline.
“Carbon capture technology has been working safely and effectively for 50 years. Today, there are more than 25 facilities operating around the world, permanently capturing and storing around 40 Mt of carbon dioxide annually.”
“Today, the best and safest way to move CO2 is through pipelines.”
“CO2 pipeline incidents are rare…from 2004 to 2022, CO2 pipelines had an average accident rate of 0.001 per mile in operation per year.”
